Uluru

This is 5 ½ hours by bus from Alice Springs. The rock is sacred ground for the Aborginal people. 1500 feet above the ground and three quarters of it is underground.

It is 7 miles around, but you cant go around it all because it is not allowed. You can climb up it, but it is a tough 2 hour climb.

The things to do are – take a tour, see the sunrise over the rock which is amazing the different colors, photos don’t do it justice. Take a guided walk along the base of the rock. In the evening, book the Sounds of Silence Dinner. A wonderful experience, dine in the bush, then have a lecture by an astronomer. A walk in the Olgas – 36 large rock formations 50 miles away is also interesting, thru the Valley of the Winds.

KINGS CANYON

This takes an extra two days to visit the canyon. Great hiking area, and worth a visit
