States & Territories:Darwin is the capital of the Territory and the gateway to its tropical part. Aborginal culture is very much etched into the community as it has the largest population of indigenous people. It is closer to Indonesia than the rest of the land, and the climate is always hot. The three major National Parks are all within a day’s trip. Kakadu, the most famous Litchfield and Katherine Gorge which has a unique cruise. Take a camping safari to Kakadu. Unbelieveable amount of birds and wildlife, and if you go in the wet season, the thunder storms and waterfalls are spectacular. 5000 different sites of aboriginal rock art. ![]() There are a couple of luxury safari camps, with wonderful fishing and birdlife. Two that I like are the Bamurru Plains and the Arnhemland Barramundi Nature Lodge. They had a record 55lb Barramundi caught there recently. You fly into both of these properties by charter plane from Darwin. Both remote, and in a part rarely visited. Bullo River Station is located in a remote corner, close to Western Australia a 500,000 acre working cattle station. You have to charter a flight from Darwin to land on their lawn. Take a river cruise, horseback riding, watch the mustering, fantastic bird life, aboriginal rock art, and its two little boys love visitors and tell you about doing their school work over the radio. Ben and Franzi are a delight and being 1000 miles from their nearest neighbor makes them happy to see visitors. An hour’s flight from Darwin are the Tiwi Islands. This is a remote aboriginal settlement which does fantastic paintings and carved burial poles. The children have painted faces, and you see them do their crafts and perform for the visitors. The art work is far less than anywhere else. They also paint fabrics which is great for tablecloths. This is an interesting day trip. MO'S MUST SEE'S: 1-DAY PACKAGES:
