These are two old gold mining towns which are steeped in history. The largest Chinese settlement is in Bendigo, and the best Museum in Victoria is here. Ballarat and Sovereign Hill are famous, and you can see Australia as it was in the l850’s. Go to the gold museum and see the biggest nuggets in the world. There is a great show at night which tells you about the famous Eureka Stockade. You can do a nice two day bus trip to see this area. About three hours drive out of Melbourne. Bendigo has a wonderful Easter Parade with spectacular floats.
