Australia - Victoria

This is Australia’s second largest city built on the northern banks of the Yarra River, and is famous for great sporting events, food, shopping, fabulous arts and a host of regional attractions nearby. Melbourne appears to be more cultured than any other city, with lots of great art galleries, and museums. It has beautiful Victorian architecture, and was a very wealthy city because of the goldfields such as Bendigo and Ballaret.

It is a very cosmopolitan city, with more than 140 different nations settling there.

The first immigrates were in 1830, from Europe, and the second wave was in the 1850’s seeking their fortune in the gold fields. The Mint Museum is worth visiting to see the largest gold nuggets in the world. The third wave of immigrants was after WW.II and today, 20% of the city’s population does not have English as their first language.

It is famous for its fashion industry, and shopping.
