FOOD AND WINE

This wine region was established in 1851 and is sometimes called the New Zealand answer to Bordeaux. It has world class examples of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and other red Bordeaux varieties that Hawkes Bay seems to produce with ease. This region also makes luscious Sauternes like Semillion. It basks in a Mediterranean like climate and its food and wine festivals are fun.
