This is one of the most scenic train rides in the world. It goes every morning from Christchurch to Greymouth on the West Coast, taking 4 hours. It comes back in the afternoon.

The train travels through Arthurs Pass, which has one of the best wilderness lodges in the country.

You can pick up a car at Greymouth, then drive down the West Coast to the Franz Joseph Glacier.
